Godzilla 2014 Movie Review

I wasn’t a big Godzilla fan, in fact the only Godzilla show I remember was the one where he fights along side with Ultraman (???), which I can’t recall which and what year the episode was made...

Good Job!

I did watch the 1998 Hollywood version of Godzilla out of curiosity and influence by heavy advertisement... which was... awful...

Godzilla 1998 likes buildings :)

However, after that show, I started to show interest in the Godzilla franchise and did some research on the origin of the show.

After 16 years of hiatus (yes, 16 freaking years!!!), a reboot is finally realised...

I went to watch the movie with my wife after work, and I was actually quite tired that day... The seat was quite comfortable at first but I was adjusting all the way, probably due to the tiredness...

I’m putting up a SPOILER WARNING just in case I accidentally spoiled something. So here it goes...

Going into the movie, I was expecting a more act oriented movie ala Pacific Rim. However, this movie focused more on the human element of the story. I was tired at the beginning and wasn’t very focus on the story, and had to get my wife to explain it to me afterwards.

Gojira!!! This is Ken Watanabe's ONLY face expression for the Entire Movie!!!

The screen time for Godzilla was quite limited. Every time you see Godzilla fights, it cuts to another scene, which kinda disrupt the flow. You don’t get like a long scene fight till the end thing... Talk about ‘potong stim’... haiz... come on lah! Just let them fight! Also, the movie takes itself rather serious ie no joke, comedy etc

I kinda like the design of Godzilla compared to the 1998 version. It goes back to the classic Japanese design. For some reason, me and my wife thought Godzilla is cute. I’m not surprise cos they need to design it to make it relatable and ‘friendly’, like a dog XD

I'm cute and I know it...

I do enjoy that they introduce atomic breath to Godzilla. It looks cheesy but executed well. The fight with MUTO in the end is also a great finale.

All in all, the thought that the movie was just ok. It may not satisfy in terms of the overall experience, but it’s a good attempt to honor the King of Monsters.
